ABOUT US

Nearly 100 years ago, a group of veterans from the Spanish American War as well as World War I aided in the mustering of Oroville Post No. 1747 on November 20th , 1929. The Post has been active with members from every foreign conflict that the United States has been part of ever since.

We strive to provide aid and/or a financial hand-up to service members, veterans and their families when in distress or need; this includes supporting our service members and their families while they are deployed. Our Post provides community service where appropriate and endeavors to inform the community and our youth of the commitments required which maintain our country’s freedoms and rights by reminding them of the sacrifices others have made in order to keep those freedoms and rights we so cherish. We make every effort to inspire patriotism in the community by example and deed.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States came into existence in 1913 as a result of amalgamations over a period of years since 1899 of five separate foreign service organizations that had the same ideals and similar requirements for membership. These organizations came into being entirely independent of one another and without the knowledge of one another at the time of their origin.

On May 28, 1936, a Congressional Charter incorporated the:

VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS OF THE UNITED STATES

The Purpose of the VFW
(Title 36 U.S.C. § 230102)
